Syllabus

Required Readings:

There will be a packet of compiled readings by different twentieth century writers and philosophers that is available at all UIUC bookstores, as well as a few on-line readings that will be found on e-reserves.

Materials:

Yourself, and your enthusiasm to participate! This is a discussion based class, so always come prepared with ideas that you are exited to share

Assignments and Grading:

Participation	Throughout the semester	50 pts.
Student blogs: Students will be required to create their own personal blogs to correspond with this course. They can be as simple or as elaborate as the student pleases. There will be required weekly posts, as well as the uploading of some homework assignments to their blog.	Throughout the semester	200 pts.
Weekly posts: weekly posts to student blogs. I will send out weekly prompts.	Throughout the semester	75/200
On-line museum scavenger hunt: There will be a group scavenger hunt where students will be expected to collaborate with other students to find certain pieces of art and artistic information. More information is given with the assignment	10/05/12	200 pts.
Final Art project: Students will choose a movement, an artist, or a particular work and make a reproduction or create their own based off of that artist's/movement's style. They will then be required to upload these pieces onto their blogs.	11/25/12	300 pts.
Final Presentation: After creating their own work, students will then give a 15 min. presentation to the class about what they chose, why, and their individual pieces.	12/4/12-12/9/12	150 pts.
