Final Project

Students are required to choose ONE out of the options provided below.
All final projects should be submitted via student blog. Take a picture of your artwork and simply upload it to your blog space.
However, for final presentations, students will be required to bring their artwork to class on the day of their presentation.

Option I

You should choose one artist that we covered in class. From that particular artist's work, you will need to choose one work of art. This could be a piece/pieces that we covered in class or another piece that you would like to replicate.
Then,  study this piece of artwork.
From what movement is it from? When and where did the artist paint it? Who or what was the inspiration? Look at the style. What types of brush/pen strokes were used? What is the color palette? These are all important questions that will need to be answered later in your final presentation.
After examining the piece that you have chosen, you will need to replicate it. You may do this on any material you would like, but the size must be no smaller than 8.5 X 11 inches and may not exceed 2 X 3 feet. As for your own interpretations of the artwork, get creative. You do not necessarily have to create your own piece with the same tools that were used for the original. If you prefer to work with pencil, ink, or pastel and the original was done in oil paints, then work with the medium that you are most comfortable in.
It also does not need to be exact. You should have the same figures, and the same style. However, if you want to focus in on a particular section of the painting, or change the mood by using a different color scheme- then do it!
-- Be prepared to explain any and all differences in your final presentation to the class.

Option II

Option III

I would expand on these options. Ideally, I would like option II to be something along the lines of choosing a particular movement and coming up with a completely original piece of artwork using the concepts and stylistic points/elements associated with that movement.
Then, having option III be something like examining the evolution of art thus far, and coming up with a piece of work that projects where art is headed.
Of course, the language aspect to this assignment would be more so in the final oral class presentation of this project. Also, instead of having the students submit a paper along with their presentation/final, I think it would be a better idea to blog about other student's presentations and then require them to respond to at least one blog post.
